What is a Bitcoin-backed loan?
A Bitcoin-backed loan lets you borrow Australian dollars using your Bitcoin or Ethereum as security, the same way a mortgage uses property. You keep ownership of the asset throughout the term. You are pledging it, not selling it.
You deposit collateral into a wallet held in your name, and borrow up to 50% of its value. Interest is fixed for the full 12 months, repayments are quarterly, and when you repay in full your collateral is returned within two business days.
Access liquidity without triggering a capital gains event
Keep every cent of upside if Bitcoin appreciates during the term
Lock in a fixed rate and a fixed 12-month term, with no variable surprises
Have funds in your Australian bank account within two business days
Borrow from $2,000, up to $250,000 personal or $500,000 commercial
Track your collateral on the blockchain, 24 hours a day

"We created Vield because we faced the same challenges other long-term Bitcoin holders face. So we built a platform that lets you unlock your bitcoin's potential while keeping full ownership."

Not all Bitcoin-backed loans are equal
When it comes to borrowing against your crypto, not all platforms are created equal. At Vield, trust and transparency are at the core of everything we do. Our clients choose us specifically for our commitment to non-rehypothecation, wallet visibility, and security.
| Feature | Vield | Competitors |
|---|---|---|
| Rehypothecation policy | We never rehypothecate your assets. Your collateral is kept secure, used solely to back your loan, with no hidden risks involved. | Lenders often rehypothecate client assets, using them for other purposes, which can introduce additional risks. |
| Collateral security | We use multi-signature wallets and assign you a unique address, so you know your assets are safe and traceable at all times. Your funds are not commingled with any other customer’s funds. Learn more about our ongoing commitment to security | Security measures vary; some may not provide transparent tracking of individual collateral. Your funds are also at risk of being commingled with other customers. |
| Regulatory compliance | We operate under strict Australian financial regulations and appropriate licences. Vield Pty Ltd (ABN 92 658 666 356) is a digital currency service provider registered with AUSTRAC (DCE100809730-001). Vield Capital Pty Ltd (ABN 38 672 205 113) as Credit Representative (No. 553950) of LSL Alternative Credit Pty Ltd (ABN 55 641 811 181) Australian Credit Licence No. 526970. | Compliance levels vary; some platforms may operate in jurisdictions with less stringent regulations or be based offshore. |
| Asset management transparency | We never engage your assets with DeFi platforms or hedge funds to secure liquidity. Your crypto stays right where you store it, fully accounted for within secure wallets. | Some platforms may use assets for liquidity in DeFi or hedge funds, which can expose client collateral to additional market risks. |
| Insurance | Your assets are insured through Zodia Custody. Cover runs to USD 55 million per incident for theft, hacking, damage or destruction, with separate cyber and civil liability cover on top. This is institutional-grade protection rarely seen in Australian crypto platforms. | Most competitors do not provide insured custody, leaving assets exposed to loss or theft without reimbursement options. |
| Wallet visibility | You’ll have 24/7 real-time visibility of your crypto holdings in secured wallets, ensuring you have full visibility. | Transparency levels vary; not all platforms offer real-time updates or full visibility on collateral status. |
| Interest rates and fees | Our rate is 13% p.a., compounded daily, with a simple one-time 2% origination fee. No hidden fees. | Interest rates and fees vary; some platforms may have higher rates or hidden charges. |
| Transparency and monitoring | You’ll always be informed about the status of your assets with continuous monitoring and reporting, by email and SMS. | Transparency levels vary; some platforms may not offer continuous updates on collateral status. |
Testimonials
"We get to see how a lot of crypto businesses operate from the inside, and Vield is one of the best-run we've come across. The custody is properly thought through, and they clearly take the security side seriously. For anyone considering a Bitcoin-backed loan in Australia, we couldn't recommend them higher."
Jock HaslamCo-Founder, Hashlock"In institutional custody, the operational standards around how an asset is held are everything. Vield has built their product around those standards from the start. For borrowers pledging Bitcoin, that's the question they should be asking first."
Ryan HodgesCEO, Zodia Custody"Vield is the only Australian crypto-backed lender that has obtained an ATO Private Binding Ruling on the CGT treatment of customer deposits. Under their loan structure, the ATO has confirmed that pledging Bitcoin as collateral isn't a disposal for CGT purposes. For long-term holders, that's the question that has held back the entire industry. Cadena Legal was glad to help Vield get the ruling."
Harrison DellFounder, Cadena Legal"Taking a comprehensive, risk-based approach to cyber security is critical in the digital finance space. Drawing on my background in banking technology and cyber governance, our focus is to provide Vield with rigorous, independent oversight that strengthens their defensive posture and supports their commitment to safeguarding client assets."
